Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month 2015 in Houston
Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) is celebrated every year from September 15 to October 15. The beginning date coincides with the independence day for five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico celebrates independence on September 16, and Chile on September 18. It’s my understanding that the end date is set to fall (close) to Columbus Day (October 12), which is mostly not celebrated any more but is the date when we celebrate the “discovery” of the American continent by Europeans.
In Houston there are many many activities and events scheduled to celebrate the event, including the annual parade, concerts and performances, and exhibits. Below is the small list of events that you may want to check out. I expect to update this periodically with new events found, so please check back.
In addition, check out the list of upcoming concerts, which may not be listed here. I decided that just because a concert is happening during HHM doesn’t necessarily make it a Hispanic Heritage event.
Enjoy!
