Bring the family and celebrate Hispanic heritage with a full day of music, dance, stories, art and hands-on fun! Children’s Museum Houston is kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month with performances and activities that introduce kids to traditions from Mexico and across Latin America. The celebration is designed for all ages and runs throughout the day.

There is plenty happening throughout the day. Families can start with bilingual storytime at 10 AM, followed by traditional Aztec dancing from the Calmecac Indigenous Organization at 11 AM. At noon, a Fiestas Patrias celebration features live mariachi, a reenactment of the Grito de Dolores and a finale with mariachi and ballet folklórico.

The music continues at 1 PM with an introduction to Latin rhythms and the history of the conga drum, presented by Young Audiences of Houston. At 3:30 PM, The Essence of Mexico brings traditional dances from Nuevo León to the stage.

Kids can also get creative throughout the day. They can make colorful tricolor paper fans and design their own independence flags using the Mexican folk-art tradition of papel picado.

And the celebration doesn’t end Saturday! Children’s Museum Houston is also hosting a Hispanic Heritage Free Family Night series on Thursdays through October 8. The series includes bilingual entertainment, ballet folklórico, a Selena tribute, a Frida Kahlo-inspired art experience and other special activities. Free Family Night admission is available Thursdays from 5 to 8 PM, with advance tickets released 48 hours before each Thursday.
