TV Finds: Golden Globe 2015 + Jane the Virgin (UPDATED)
“Jane the Virgin” is a top contender in tonight’s Golden Globe Awards. The list of nominations include a few of my favorites, shows and actors that have been nominated for recognition. But “Jane” by far easiest to overlook.
Nominated in the category of Musical or Comedy series, “Jane” is competing with big name rivals including “Orange Is the New Black“ and “Girls.” I have to admit, I’m rooting for “Jane,” a show that’s a funny and fresh spoof on the traditional (and overblown) Mexican telenovelas.
Of course, Gina Rodriguez is also nominated for a Best Actress award. She plays Jane in the aforementioned “Jane.”
Don’t know the show? Here’s the plot: Jane is a virgin engaged college student who becomes accidentally artificially inseminated by the gorgeous billionaire married bad boy who is her boss, on whom she once had a crush. Of course, his wife is a criminal. Of course, he and Jane end up together. Throw in her long-lost father, her mother the aspiring singer, and the grandmother who never speaks a word of English.
I love it! It airs on Mondays on the CW.
The Golden Globe Awards air tonight (Sunday, 1/11/15) on CBS.
UPDATE! Congratulations Gina Rodriguez on winning the Golden Globe.
