— From contributing blogger, Jackie Gil —

There are nearly 22 million Latinas in the United States. Many of these women are community leaders, role models, and entrepreneurs. In fact, Latinas account for the fastest growing segment of business owners. For this reason, Ford Motor Company has been committed to supporting the Hispanic Community through awareness and recognition of strong Hispanic leaders.

This year, Ford Motor Company established Mujer Legendaria as a way to ensure these incredible women, their work, and their stories would always be recognized and applauded. The women were selected by the Houston Chapter of the National Hispanic Professional Organization (NHPO) based on their accomplishments and contributions to the Hispanic Community:

  • Smart- Líder Latina – Patricia Perez
  • Green- Eco Latina – Celia Valles
  • Quality- Mamá Super Estrella – Iris Mendez
  • Safety- Líder Comunitaria – Margie Reyes

The initiative launched on March 8th, International Women’s Day and the four honorees were showcased on Facebook Ford en Español throughout the month and an award reception was held for them earlier this month, on May 2, 2013, as a way of honoring their journey and celebrating their many accomplishments.

We’ve included a photo album from this event.
