Houston Writers Guild Short Story Mystery Contest; Deadline is Friday, July 31, 2015
Attention aspiring writers! The Houston Writers Guild is hosting a Short Story Mystery Contest that’s open to members and nonmembers alike. So, if you’ve ever wanted to write a whodunit (or already have), this may be the contest for you. (And, please, no “Maria killed him in the lavandería with a machete” or something equally as hokey.)
The Guild is looking for original unpublished mystery short stories; even though it’s technically a short story contest, they also are accepting stand-alone adaptations from a longer manuscript. What do the winners receive? In addition to bragging rights, they will get a small cash prize and be published in the first HWG Press Anthology. (The cash prize is $100 for First Prize, $75 for Second Prize, and $50 for Third Prize.)
The entry deadline is Friday, July 31, 2015. There’s a small entry fee, $15. For full details, visit www.houstonwritersguild.org/contests. Questions about the contest? Email hwgnewsletter.submissions@gmail.com.
