El Pollo Loco: they have salads too! #ad

Food & Drink, General

This is a sponsored post, but all opinions are my own.

It’s a new year and you know what that means… it means that new year’s resolutions have been made by many well-intentioned and dedicated people (except me). Losing weight, eating healthier and making better choices are among the most common resolutions for my friends and family. I don’t make new year’s resolutions any more; I stopped that a few years ago.

The good news is that going on a diet doesn’t mean you have to stop eating food that tastes good.A lot of restaurants offer healthy alternatives, from low-cal and low fat, to items that meet the requirements for specialty diets (including Atkins, Paleo, and others). El Pollo Loco offers a lot of options that will fit your diet needs. But today I am going to talk about the traditional diet food: salads.

Chicken Tostada Salad

Shown here is the Chicken Tostada Salad, which is basically a chicken salad in a taco shell. The spotlight ingredient is the cubed chicken, which is (of course) made from their signature citrus-marinated chicken breast, on a bed of chopped romaine lettuce blend, with pinto beans, rice, shredded jack cheese, sour cream and pico de gallo salsa topped with a creamy cilantro dressing and some sour cream.

Yes, I know that that doesn’t sound like a healthy alternative, but compared to the way I normally eat, it is.If you want to opt for a healthier version you can order it without the dressing or the shell.

Other salad options include the Ultimate Double Chicken Salad, which doesn’t come in a fried shell, the Mexican Cobb Salad, which I’m looking forward to trying, and the Avocado Bacon Chicken Tostada Salad, which is basically a Chicken Tostada Salad with avocado and bacon. You can special-order any of these to meet your needs. When you test them out, let me know what you think.

I’ll talk about the “Bowl” dishes next time.
