Just because you’re watching what you eat doesn’t mean that you have to stop eating out. In most cases, what you’re forced to do is be creative in how you order at restaurants. But these days many restaurants are offering a “light” menu that takes the guesswork out of it for you. This way, you know what you’re getting without having to become a makeshift nutritionist.

El Pollo Loco has an Under 500 Calories menu that includes a options from the entire menu… with just enough changes to bring the calorie totals to under 500 calories. And, if you check the online menu, there’s so much more they’ve achieved with these changes.

Of course, the “light” menu includes several salads. Salad options include the Tostada Salad, the Classic Salad, and the Avocado Salad. The Classic Salad has either the signature fire-grilled chicken or Baja shrimp, topped onto lettuce, corn, pico de gallo salsa, and Cotija cheese; it’s garnished with corn tortilla strips and cilantro. The Avocado Salad has, of course, avocados topped onto lettuce, broccoli, black beans, the signature fire-grilled chicken, pico de gallo and cotija cheese; according to the website, this is Lindora’s “Lean for Life” Weight Maintenance Phase approved.

The good news is that there are other items available in the under 500 calorie menu.

Their Skinny Chicken Quesadillas are made with their signature hand-marinated, fire-grilled chicken breast and paired with jack cheese, cabbage and lettuce, salsa and cilantro. The whole thing is grilled in a whole wheat tortilla.

The Mango Grilled Tostada has, unsurprisingly, mango salsa. It includes avocados, black beans, (another not-surprise) their signature fire-grilled chicken, and cotija cheese. The tostada is a grilled whole wheat tortilla. According to the website, this is Lindora’s “Lean for Life” Weight Maintenance Phase approved.

Have I mentioned the burritos? There is a Whole Wheat Avocado Burrito and a BRC Burrito. The Whole Wheat Avocado Burrito is made with avocados, black beans, cabbage, their signature fire-grilled chicken, and pico de gallo and poblano salsa, all wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla. The BRC Burrito is a flour tortilla filled with rice, pinto beans and shredded jack cheese; according to the website, this is Lindora’s “Lean for Life” Weight Maintenance Phase approved.

And that’s just the beginning! In addition to the skinless chicken options, there is a Chicken Taco Al Carbon and Chicken Tortilla Soup that are good alternatives to check out.
