The Houston Symphony and Colombian Youth Philharmonic (Filarmónica Joven de Colombia) will present performances of Carmina Burana on Friday, July 17, 2015 & Saturday, July 18, 2015. The songs in Carmina Burana “celebrate love, feasting and merriment with wild abandon, all the while acknowledging the ever-turning wheel of fortune.”(1)

The performances will be conducted by Houston Symphony’s new music director, Andres Orozco-Estrada. Also participating in the performances are the Houston Symphony Chorus and the Houston Children’s Chorus.

This is part of an exceptional program through which Houston Symphony musicians provided intensive training to the young musicians of the Colombian Youth Philharmonic. The Houston Symphony sent 14 musicians to Colombia to mentor the young musicians from the Colombian Youth Philharmonic.

“Investing in bringing Houston Symphony musicians to Colombia to teach and guide young artists is key for the development and growth of classical music in Colombia,” said Orozco-Estrada. “I feel proud and inspired by the commitment of the HOuston Symphony towards the development and education of these young artists; it proves how important music is during the yearly years of our lives.”

You still have time to catch these performances in Houston; dates are today and tomorrow.
