Chef Hugo Ortega nominated for James Beard Award
Chef Hugo Ortega (Hugo’s Restaurant) is one of three Houston chefs to be nominated for the James Beard Awards in the Best Chef: Southwest category. The other two chefs are Chris Shepherd (Underbelly) and Justin Yu (Oxheart). I know that Ortega has been nominated previously.
The other Houstonian in the awards nominations is Houston Chronicle’s Allison Cook for the Craig Claiborne Distinguished Restaurant Review Award for her reviews “Corkscrew BBQ a New Houston Classic,” “The Cosmic Soup of Pho Hung,” “The Pass Unleashes Plates of Playfulness.”
