Celebrating Día de la Madres

From the Editors, General

My father was born on Día de la Madres. Which means that he was born on May 10th. In Mexico Mother’s Day is always on May 10th, no matter what day of the week it falls on. So every Día de la Madres we celebrated my mother and we also celebrated my father’s birthday.

Of course, the years when we lived in the US we celebrated Mother’s Day on … well … Mother’s Day. And every few years my father’s birthday actually fell on the US Mother’s Day, when May 10th fell on the second Sunday of the month of May. Like this year. This would have been one of those years.

Later this year my family will be commemorating ten years since my father passed away. But that’s a post for another day.
