In today’s audio pick we share a story that ran recently in Houston Public Media’s News 88.7 FM: “Mexico’s Carlo Slim Gives $2.6 Million to Baylor to Fight Parasite of Poverty.”

In the story they report about a $2.6 million donation the Carlos Slim Foundation has given Baylor College of Medicine for research into a therapeutic vaccine for Chagas disease. New 88.7 reports that the disease infects “five times as many people as HIV.”

Carlos Slim is a Mexican business magnate who frequently ranks #1 in annual reports on the richest man in the world. In 2015, he was ranked as #15 by Forbes with an estimated net worth of $65.6 billion. His holdings include Telmex.
