“Aquí and Now”: Houston City Hall Spotlights Queer Latinx Creatives!

Houston is set to shine a spotlight on the remarkable talents of queer Latinx creatives with the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs’ latest exhibition, “Aquí and Now.” As part of the Expressions! series, this vibrant showcase celebrates LGBTQIA+ artists while raising awareness about the challenges they face.

Curated by César Ramos in collaboration with Raspa Magazine, “Aquí and Now” brings together a diverse range of literary works by Jesús I. Valles, mónica teresa ortiz, S Rodriguez, Saúl Hernández, SG Huerta, Farrah Fang, and Stalina Villareal. Accompanied by captivating portraits in a rainbow-inspired color spectrum, symbolizing pride and resilience, these works aim to foster understanding and combat discrimination.

Don’t miss the site activation event on July 20th, from 4 pm to 5 pm, at The City Hall Legacy Room. Experience the power of their words as the featured authors read their works and engage in a discussion about creative life in Texas. “Aquí and Now” will be on view from June 15th to August 25th, 2023, inviting Houstonians to embrace and amplify the voices of queer Latinx creatives.
