Celebrate the 18th anniversary of Nuestra Palabra.

Wednesday, April 27, 2016, 6pm – 8pm
Talento Bilingue de Houston 333. S. Jensen.
Tickets available at www.NuestraPalabra.org.
$25 at the door. $20 in advance.
$50 SuperTickets include guaranteed front row or reserved seating &
copies of NP author books.

This showcase will feature the poetry, fiction, and teatro of our award-winning authors who started their careers on our stage.

The showcase includes:

NP Founding Discovery: Carolina Monsiváis, poet.
University of Houston (B.A); New Mexico State University (M.F.A.)
Experience a staged reading from her collection “Descent”.

NP Founding Member: Russell Contreras, Reporter, Associated Press.
Eisenhower High School; Lone Star College-North Harris;University of Houston-B.A.; Columbia University M.F.A.-Non-fiction.
First reading of his book on JFK’s last moments before his assassination.

NP Discovery: Leslie Contreras Schwartz, poet, essayist and fiction writer.
Eisenhower High School; Rice University-B.A.; Warren Wilson College M.F.A.-Poetry.
Enjoy the debut of her book of poems FUEGO.

NP National Ally: José Torres-Tama, NEA Award-winning Ecuadorian Performance Artist, Visual Artist, Poet & Political Provocateur
Experience an excerpt from his play, “ALIENS, IMMIGRANTS & OTHER EVILDOERS,” a sci-fi Latino noir solo.

NP Discovery: Icess Fernandez Rojas, writer, blogger, teacher, journalist
North Shore High School; San Jacinto College- North Campus; University of Houston-B.A.; Goddard College M.F.A-Creative Writing (Fiction)

NP Discovery: Jasminne Mendez, Writer in Residence, Writers in the Schools
Judson Sr. High School; University of Houston B.A. & M.Ed.; MFA Creative Writing Candidate, Rainier Writer’s Workshop- Pacific Lutheran University.
Experience the unique and distinct poems from her collection “Island of Dreams”.

NP Memoria: Claudia Isela Macias, Education Consultant-Discover With Me! Education Solutions, Children’s Book Author.
Reagan High School; University of Houston B.S.; University of Houston Clear Lake M.S.-Education
Experience her homage to her grandfather Jose “Pepe” Gonzales, as she shares the poem he read at one of our first showcases.

NP Discovery/Librotraficante Co-Founder: Lupe Méndez, Instructor, Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory School of Houston
O’Connell High School- Galveston, Tx;
University of St. Thomas, B.A.; University of Texas @ El Paso, M.F.A.- Creative Writing.
Experience the politically charged poetry & prose from his newest collection “Damas Y Caballeros”.

NP Founding Member: Alvaro Saar Rios, Assistant Professor, Playwriting and Analysis, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Lamar High School; Houston Community College; University of Houston B.A.; Northwestern University M.F.A.-Writing for the Stage & Screen.
Experience a staged reading from his play “Bienvenidos a Milwaukee” featuring actors Trevor Boffone, Lupe Mendez & Jasminne Mendez.
