It’s been more than 10 years since my father died of Parkinson’s Disease. As I watch the news coverage of the recent death of Muhammad Ali I realized that (to many) this disease is still a mystery. In many ways, it still is to me as well. But I have had the first-hand experience of […]
Want to be successful? Be polite!
There seems to be a belief that popped up in the past few decades or so that to become successful you have to be rude, obnoxious, and just plain mean. Somehow, somewhere along the way we convinced ourselves that manners (and politeness) are a sign of weakness or something. And civility started to erode and […]
Happy Valentine’s Day!
¡Feliz día del Amor y la Amistad! I’ve come to resent Valentine’s Day. And it isn’t just because of the insane level of pink-dom that permeates the world. Really, it’s like something coated the world in Pepto Bismol or something. Valentine’s Day is created specifically for couples … and there’s just something inherently depressing about looking […]
Did I mention the new Ford Fusion V6 Sport?
… If I’d been looking at the Fusion V6 Sport, I might have actually decided bought one (maybe). It has a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost® V6 delivering a “projected 325 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque.” This might have swayed my little lead-footed heart (did I mention that the car I did buy accelerates really well?) …
The “wow” factor in the new Ford Raptor
… Of all the things I saw at NAIAS, the one I keep talking about is the new Ford Raptor. It’s a monster. It’s a thing of beauty. And I really really want to get behind the wheel of one. (I liked it so much I talked about it on my radio show.) …
A trip to NAIAS, life-sized toys for the woman who knows nothing about cars
I was lucky enough to be invited to the media preview for the “Detroit Auto Show” (also know as the North American International Auto Show“). It’s the event where the auto makers unveil their newest model, the innovations and surprises for the year. It’s the car equivalent of the CANNES film festival or SXSW.
Walking around the showroom, attending the (few) news events and unveilings, interacting with others as they also took everything in … it was surreal and fabulous …
Ladies and Gentlemen, meet the new Barbie(s)!
In case you missed it, Barbie got a new body this week. Actually, she got three new bodies this week. And you never saw so much fuss made over such an overdue change. She also got a new dress that I stitched for her; a miniature replica of the one at https://www.neonmello.com/collections/cheongsam. Of course, I’m […]

She was a Houston native and a life-long advocate and supporter of Houston’s Hispanic community through her volunteer activities. She was a role model, a historical icon, and she will be missed.
