“The Walking Dead” starts up with new episodes next week. As a fan, I’ve been counting down the weeks. The winter cliffhanger included the destruction of their make-shift home, taking the illusion of safety, scattering everyone, and included the death of major characters. Since I haven’t read the comic book series, I don’t know if the direction of the show is in line with the original concept or deviating completely… and that’s a good thing.
“The Walking Dead” is the most popular drama on cable. It’s breaking records and astounding critics. But, in a world we have have zombie walks, zombie fun-runs and even where we have the show itself coming to Houston and letting people experience being a survivor or being a zombie, are we really surprised by the show’s popularity? I’m not, but I am a science fiction geek and have been watching zombie movies for a long while now. And it turns out that the show is a big hit with Hispanics, so I guess I’m not alone.
Regardless of the reasons why, the show picks up with new episodes next week. And I will be glued to the TV in real-time (this is one of the few shows I watch in original broadcast).
